“RIGHT MAKES MIGHT” EXAMINES
INFLUENCE
OF ORANGE COUNTY POLITICS
KOCE Production Takes Historical Look at Local Politics
During This Election Year
Right makes might. It is what gives Orange County political
clout in local, regional and national campaigns – but where
did it come from? How did it gain such power? How does it affect Orange
County’s changing population?
Leading up to Election Day, Right Makes Might,
a half-hour Real Orange Election Special, examines the roots
of Orange County’s political muscle and the power it wields
today. The program presents an in depth, historical perspective of
Orange County’s influence as a political nexus as it affects
both state and national political strategies. The program is produced
in association with the Orange County Register, and made possible
by a grant from the PBS Program Challenge Fund’s “Best
Practices in Journalism” project.
Premiering Sunday, October 17 at 8:30 p.m. on KOCE,
PBS from Orange County, Right Makes Might presents
a comprehensive look at the formation of Orange County’s political
conservatism, and explores “the OC effect” on campaign
strategies for both major political parties. The program encores Monday,
November 1 at 7:00 p.m. on KOCE, and it is also being shown on PBS
stations throughout California.
Topics covered on Right Makes Might
include “The History of Republican/Conservative Tilt,”
“Organizations & Infrastructures that Maintain and Support
GOP Strongholds,” “The OC Democratic Party Foothold,”
“Congressman Bob Dornan (R) vs. Challenger Loretta Sanchez (D)
in 1996,” and “Orange County Power Statewide & Nationally.”
