HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIF. (January 23, 2006) – KOCE-TV's Orange County news coverage has again been lauded, this time by the Radio and Television News Association, which presented KOCE's Real Orange with three Golden Mike Awards - Best “Spot” News Reporting, Best News Special and Best Entertainment Reporting. In addition, KOCE, in conjunction with Coastline Community College, received a prestigious Emmy Award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for Instructional Programming. “KOCE-TV is honored to receive these respected industry awards,” said Mel Rogers, president and CEO of KOCE-TV. “We are pleased to bring recognition to the important news stories and people of Orange County.”
Radio and Television News Association Honors KOCE-TV with Three “Golden Mike’s” The staff of KOCE’s Real Orange, Orange County’s only weekly news program, was honored with the Golden Mike for Best News Special for their production of “Disneyland’s 50th Anniversary Special.” The live, on-site special from Disneyland’s Main Street during the 50th Anniversary kick-off celebration included several stories about Disneyland’s rich history in Orange County, as well as numerous live interviews. The Golden Mike for Best “Spot” News Reporting was given to KOCE reporter David Nazar for his compelling coverage of the Laguna Beach landslide. Nazar provided viewers with on-the-scene reporting at one of Orange County’s most devastating natural disasters. KOCE reporter Sandra Robbie was also honored with the Golden Mike for Best Entertainment Story for her special, “Tupperware Tootsie.” Robbie reported on the local Orange County actor and cross-dresser who has become the number one Tupperware salesperson in America. Her compelling piece gave viewers insight on one of Orange County’s most interesting citizens.
