KOCE-TV HOST ED ARNOLD TO RECEIVE
“LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD”
Radio & Television News Association Honors Arnold for his Excellence in Broadcasting

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIF. (January 10, 2007) – KOCE-TV “Real Orange” newscaster, Ed Arnold, is being honored by the Radio & Television News Association of Southern California with the prestigious 2007 “Lifetime Achievement Award.” The award is given to journalists whose commitment to quality journalism, adherence to the highest principles of integrity, service to the community and/or promotion of the First Amendment rights of the free press have been extraordinary over the course of an entire career.

“There are so many other broadcasters who deserve this award more than I,” said Arnold. “It is a distinct privilege to be given this kind of recognition by my peers and I humbly accept it on behalf of the many producers, writers, editors and cameramen and women I've been lucky enough to work with over the years.”

Since the beginning of his career at the age of 14, Arnold has developed a proven track record in broadcasting through his dedication of more than 50 years on the air. After working at several Los Angeles and Orange County radio stations, Arnold switched to television where he interviewed and reported on highly visible athletes during his long stints at KTLA and KABC-TV. He is a Golden Mike Award-winning television news and sports anchor, and currently serves as co-anchor with Ann Pulice on KOCE-TV’s news and public affairs program, “Real Orange.”

Arnold has also become a trusted presence in the community through his involvement with civic organizations, youth groups and various charities. To date, Arnold has received countless awards, including the “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the March of Dimes, the “Community Leadership Award” from the Orange County Black Chamber of Commerce, the Los Angeles Sports and Entertainment Commission inaugural media “Award of Excellence,” the West Coast “Father of the Year” for TV news and the “Distinguished Citizen Award” from the Orange County Sports Hall of Fame. In 1992, 1993, 1997, 1998 and 1999 the Southern California Sports Broadcasters Association named Arnold and Stu Nahan “Best Television Sports Anchor Staff” for their work at KTLA. Congress, the California Senate and Assembly, the Orange and Los Angeles County Boards of Supervisors and the Los Angeles, Fountain Valley, Buena Park and Bellflower City Councils have also honored Ed for his extensive service to the community.

Receiving the “Lifetime Achievement Award” alongside Arnold is legendary sportscaster Vin Scully, who has been the voice behind the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers for more than half a century and is a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Radio Hall of Fame.

“For this great honor to be presented to me the same night the legendary Vince Scully is given a well-deserved ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ for his remarkable radio career makes it even more special,” Arnold stated.
Arnold will be honored at the 57th Annual Golden Mike Awards banquet on January 27, 2007. The event will be held at the Universal Hilton Hotel in Universal City to pay tribute to the best in local broadcast journalism, from Bakersfield to San Diego, for the last year.
