FALL 2008 TELEVISION INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

KOCE-TV and the nightly news program Real Orange are extending an invitation to qualified students to apply for Real Orange internship.

Real Orange is a nightly news and interview program broadcast to all of Los Angeles and Orange counties and most of Riverside County. Our internship offers a fast-paced "hands-on" internship in the newsroom and on location working with talented broadcast professionals who are willing to share their knowledge. Duties range from writing to setting up stories to contacting newsmakers. Students will assist producers in various administrative tasks and have an opportunity to shadow reporters in the field.

All applicants must have a serious interest in broadcast journalism. Ideally, students should have some journalism experience through school coursework, previous internships or work on school newspapers/television news shows. Interns should be good communicators with excellent writing and verbal skills.
Most internships require a 12-15 hour commitment per week. All internships are non-paid and require that the student receive credit from their college or university. Written confirmation from the school is required.  Preference will be given to juniors and seniors and to candidates who are available from 3-7 pm Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The following conditions apply:
The training, although it may include actual operation of station facilities, is similar to vocational training.
The training is for the benefit of the Intern.
The student does not displace regular employees, but works under their close supervision.
The student is not entitled to a job at the conclusion of the internship.
The student does not receive employee benefits.
The training is general, so as to qualify the student to work in any similar station.
