Teachers: How Can KOCE Classroom Help You?

What is KOCE Classroom?

KOCE Classroom is a consortium of Orange County schools that have joined together to purchase rights for video-based programming created specifically for classroom teaching.

KOCE broadcasts high quality educational programming from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday through the school year. This allows teachers who have access to cable television to tape a variety of special series and programs off-air. KOCE Classroom also schedules a variety of live and interactive programs that offer students and teachers the opportunity to participate in "real-time" events.

Membership to KOCE Classroom also includes streaming and download rights for Discovery Education Streaming Video, an online resource that includes over 5,000 standards based videos, thousands of still images, speeches, articles, lesson plans and other resources to supplement instruction in the classroom.

Free Staff Development
Member schools receive free in-service training to guide teachers in the effective integration of technology in the classroom. A variety of different seminars and staff development workshops are available. Workshops can be designed to meet your objectives and range in length according to school schedules.

Monthly Newsletter
Each month, member schools are sent a KOCE Classroom newsletter filled with upcoming events, special broadcasts, new media resources, and other exciting information for teacher using educators.

Membership Fees
To become a member of KOCE Classroom, it costs schools $1.05 per year ($400 minimum) if an entire district joins or $1.35 per student ($400) if an individual school joins. This fee covers KOCE curriculum broadcasts during the school week, access to stream and download from Discovery Education Streaming, teacher training, and the monthly newsletter. Purchasing just one video series from a distributor usually costs several hundred dollars, while it costs less than $1000 for an average size elementary school to join KOCE Classroom. A KOCE Classroom membership is truly a cost-effective way for schools to build a rich instructional media collection.
