WHAT:

More than 200 students and faculty are expected to attend the “39th Annual California Student Media & Multimedia Festival Awards” – the nation’s oldest student media festival. The Academy Awards-style ceremony will recognize winners from the submissions of more than six thousand students.  Award-winning work from across California, including Orange County winners, will be showcased on three giant screens, and K-12 student winners will have the opportunity to give an acceptance speech as they are recognized with plaques and certificates.  Best overall winners will receive awards of $1,000 for their schools.

The event is free and open to the public.  Light refreshments will be served.

WHY:
Created almost four decades ago as a small local competition, the “California Student Media & Multimedia Festival Awards” has expanded to include the work of more than 6,000 student contestants from schools across the state. Over the years, the Festival has awarded more than $105,000 to California schools.

The Festival exists to celebrate the amazing media and multimedia projects produced by California’s best and brightest students and teachers – rewarding and acknowledging their successful classroom work.  The Festival truly showcases what can be accomplished when talented students and dedicated teachers work together integrating media and multimedia into education.

WHO:
The California Student Media & Multimedia Festival has been coordinated by KOCE-TV, the PBS station in Orange County, Calif. for the past seven years.
The Festival is sponsored by the California School Library Association (CSLA), the professional organization of California's library media teachers by affiliates of Computer Using Educators (CUE), California's largest technology user group for educators.
